Macleans College Zonta Club walks for gender equality

A shared commitment to gender equality brought around 20 Macleans College students together for a Zonta Club awareness walk.

Zonta International is a global organisation that empowers women worldwide through service and advocacy.

The students walked from Macleans College to the Highland Park Community Centre, drawing attention to issues affecting women and girls and supporting a more equal and inclusive community.

The walk was led by Zonta executives Yixin Zhang (Snell House) and Pierah Kohli (Te Kanawa), alongside President Alvia Farooqui (Batten) and Mrs Restauro. Participants carried colourful banners and flags created by Zonta members, creating a visible display of support along the route.

During the event, students reflected on challenges faced by women and girls worldwide. These include the gender pay gap, violence against women and girls, unequal access to education, child marriage and barriers to women's empowerment.

The event also provided an opportunity for students to develop their understanding of these issues while contributing to a shared community initiative.

For the Zonta Club, the walk encouraged leadership, collaboration and connection. It demonstrated how students and staff can come together to support an important cause and promote positive change.
