Director of Sport

Macleans College is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Director of Sport to lead and further enhance our sports programme.  The role will be responsible for the efficient and successful running of the extensive sports programme, creating a positive sporting culture and environment that reflects the college’s values.

As Director of Sport, you will provide strategic leadership and oversee the day-to-day operation of the College's sports programme across all sporting codes, from development and pre-season through to competitions and tournaments. You will work collaboratively with Code Heads, the Senior Leadership Team, coaches, and managers to deliver high-quality sporting opportunities that encourage participation and excellence.

You will recruit and support Code Heads, coaches, and managers, fostering a strong and sustainable network of volunteers and staff. You will also be responsible for planning and managing the sports budget.

The role includes overseeing the management of sports facilities, training venues, transport, uniforms, equipment and playing gear to support the smooth delivery of our sporting activities.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will hold either a teaching qualification or a recognised qualification in sport management, physical education, or a related discipline. You will also have demonstrated experience in sports administration, programme coordination and leadership. Applicants undertaking a teaching component must have a recognised teaching qualification and current New Zealand teacher registration.

You will be an organised with strong planning and relationship-building skills, working collaboratively to foster an inclusive sporting culture that encourages participation and supports students to achieve their best.

Position Details:

  • Full-time, permanent.
  • Commencing Term 4 (or by arrangement).
  • The role includes a teaching component – state preferred subject.
  • At Macleans College, all teaching staff contribute to our extra-curricular programme.

Day Relievers

Macleans College is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Day Relief Teachers to support our students across a range of subjects.
We have a particular need for relief support in Commerce, Physical Education, and Technology, although applications from teachers across all speciality areas are welcome.

As a Relief Teacher, you will play an important role in maintaining a positive and engaging learning environment when our regular teachers are unavailable. You will help ensure continuity for students, minimise disruption to learning, and encourage students to make the most of their classroom time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by classroom teachers.
  • Support students to remain focused and engaged in their learning.
  • Use digital platforms such as Google Classroom and Kamar to access information and record attendance.
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff.

Relief Teaching Opportunities

  • Day relief work offered on an as-needed basis.
