The following questions address common queries from international students, parents and education agents regarding homestay accommodation at Macleans College.
What accommodation options are available to international students at Macleans College?
Macleans College offers the following accommodation arrangements for international students.
Homestays: The majority of international students reside with a carefully selected New Zealand host family. Homestay placements are organised and managed by Macleans College.
Designated Caregiver: Where a student has relatives or close friends residing in New Zealand who are able to provide appropriate support, those individuals may be appointed as the student’s designated caregiver. All designated caregivers are subject to a home inspection and police vetting prior to approval.
Parent Guardian: International students may reside with a parent, provided that parent holds a valid New Zealand visa at all times. Enquiries regarding visa requirements for accompanying parents should be directed to Immigration New Zealand.

What is included in a Macleans College homestay?
International students are provided with a private bedroom, meals and a welcoming family environment that supports their wellbeing and adjustment to life in New Zealand.
What happens if an international student becomes unwell?
Host families assist international students in accessing appropriate medical care when needed - either the homestay families doctor or the Accident and Emergency clinic.
Students pay for their medical treatment and provide receipts to the International Department to process insurance. Medical costs are managed through the student’s international student insurance cover.
Macleans College also provides pastoral support throughout any period of illness.
