Year 9 Enterprise Market Day

Posted on July 01, 2019

On Tuesday 25 June students from two Enterprise classes set up shop in the area between Hillary House and the Physics classrooms at lunchtime.

There were 14 stalls in total with products varying from homemade donuts to 3D printed Pokemon.  The weather was fine and the atmosphere was lively as punters roamed around the different stalls looking for the best deal to satisfy their culinary needs.

Prior to Market Day each team worked on their business plan which included setting SMART objectives, performing market research, deciding on the product that would meet consumer wants, and preparing a budget.

In the days leading up to the event, focus was put on the production process with students buying ingredients and making the products before transporting them to school.  Promotion was also an important activity on the day with students making announcements during House Assembly, flyers and posters attracting buyers and stall displays and packaging adding to the market mix.

Several groups sold out their products though some reduced their price in order to do so.  Most teams made a profit which they shared among their members.  A few made losses which brought home the lesson that entrepreneurs are risk-takers.

Market Day was a great experience for New Zealand’s future business leaders.
