Year 13 Art students visit Te Tuhi art gallery

Posted on June 27, 2022

Year 13 Macleans College Art students were recently fortunate to view the Top Art exhibition which has been touring the country, showcasing the top folio board submissions from last year.

The exhibition was hosted by Te Tuhi art gallery and included the work of ex Macleans College student Maggie Xian (Mansfield House 2017 – 2021). Running alongside the Top Art exhibition was a folio board display of top boards put together by a range of east Auckland schools.

The trip to Te Tuhi also gave students the opportunity to view two exhibitions currently on show in the space. Elsewhere and Nowhere Else is a series of installation artworks produced by artists Kah Bee Chow, Li-Ming Hu and Yuk King Tan. These works enabled students to grasp how art can transform whole spaces and become an interactive and immersive experience for viewers. The House Is Full exhibition included works by Emily Karaka, John Miller, Parbhu Makan and Teuane Tibbo. The curation of the show centred around a selection of works which emerged in the 1970’s and responded to protest movements such as the dawn raids and the Ngāti Hine Forestry dispute which have defined New Zealand history.
