Exploration and learning: Year 11 students experience the Hunua Ranges

Posted on March 19, 2025

The Macleans College Year 11 Challenge and Year 11 Mana students recently embarked on the Cossey-Massey Loop Walk in the Hunua Ranges Regional Park.

Each class undertook this 8.3 km day hike on separate occasions, with distinct focuses guiding their experiences. The Challenge students concentrated on map reading, compass navigation and essential tramping survival skills. In contrast, the Mana students emphasised hauora, the Māori concept of health and well-being, while fostering connections with one another in the natural environment.

Both groups were able to appreciate the breathtaking views, sparkling water and native forest, all under the perfect conditions of an autumn day.
