Wellington Music Tour Feature

Earlier this term, 160 music students travelled to Wellington to take part in the National Concert Band Championships and Wellington Band and Orchestra Festival.

The two Symphony Orchestras performed at St Andrew’s on the Terrace to a large and appreciative audience who were wowed by the sheer size and quality of sound produced.  Varied and challenging programmes of music were presented before a short workshop session with Adjudicator Rob McWilliams.

The two Concert Bands performed at Victoria University in the Festival and Competition categories.  The Symphonic Band received a Bronze Award for their performance and the Concert Band a Gold Award and 2nd place in the competition category.

Gold Awards were also presented to the Saxophone quartet, Fortissimo Saxes (Jimmy Zhou of Batten House, Yuna Otani of Batten, Alex Jin of Mansfield, Miles Boermans of Te Kanawa) and Brass Quintet, Perfect Fifth (Shanhai Guan of Hillary, Judd Zhan of Snell, Luke Lin of Mansfield, Alex Jin, David Li of Snell).

Three soloists also represented Macleans College with Yuna Otani (Flute) picking up a Silver Award and Nicholas Ye of Kupe (Clarinet) and David Li (Tuba) picking up Gold Awards.
