Tournament Week 2026: Premier Boys Hockey

The Macleans College Premier Boys Hockey team tested themselves against some of the North Island's strongest school teams at the recent Mayhill Cup, showing determination and resilience throughout a challenging week of competition.

The competition brought together 18 premier boys teams.  Macleans College began with three closely contested pool matches, narrowly losing 2-1 to St Peter's College Cambridge, before drawing 3-3 with Bethlehem College and Pinehurst School. The results saw the team progress to the playoffs for ninth to 12th place.

Macleans College continued to face strong opposition in the playoff rounds. The team narrowly lost 2-1 to Taupō-nui-a-Tia College before their final match against Whanganui High School went to a shootout, where they were narrowly beaten.

Although the final results were not quite what the team had hoped for, there were many positives to take from the competition. The players showed determination and resilience while continuing to improve throughout the week. They also produced some excellent hockey against quality opposition.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for the team to strengthen its connections and highlighted the progress made this season.

Congratulations to all players on their efforts, attitude and continued development. Special recognition goes to the team's departing Year 13 players: captain Kumayl Essop (Te Kanawa House), vice-captain Luke Meiring (Batten), Keegan Caixeiro (Upham), Daniel Bain (Snell) and Ryan Chandler (Te Kanawa). Several have represented the Macleans College Premier team for many years, making a valuable contribution to the programme.
