Tournament Week 2026: 1st XI Girls Hockey

An unbeaten run, a tense penalty shoot-out and a commanding final performance saw the Macleans College 1st XI Girls Hockey team crowned champions of the Chica Gilmer Tournament on the North Shore.

The tournament brought together secondary school teams from across the upper North Island.  Macleans College remained unbeaten throughout the week, progressing confidently through pool play to secure a place in the semi-finals.

As winners of their pool, Macleans College faced Baradene College in a tense semi-final. The match was locked at 1-1 at full-time, sending the game to a penalty shoot-out.  Macleans College held their nerve to win 5-4, with the penalty takers and goalkeeper delivering under pressure to secure a place in the final.

Macleans College then faced Mahurangi College in the final. The girls produced another strong performance, winning 4-2 to claim the Chica Gilmer Trophy.

The victory also earns the team promotion to the Tier 1 and 2 tournament in 2027.

The players displayed impressive character both on and off the field throughout the week. Their success reflected a combination of individual skill, determination and strong teamwork.

Congratulations to the entire team on an outstanding campaign. Special thanks also go to coaches Mrs Jackson and Liz Venter, and team manager Ms Connolly, for their dedication, guidance and belief in the players throughout the season.
