A taste of the hospitality industry for Year 11 Mana students

Posted on October 08, 2026

Following a two-day Barista course, Year 11 Mana students took the next step by putting their new skills into practice in their own café for Macleans College staff.

The experience challenged the students to apply their learning in a real workplace setting. They demonstrated confidence, teamwork, communication and initiative as they worked together to deliver a professional café service.

Running the café provided valuable practical experience and helped the students develop their customer service skills. It also gave them an insight into the responsibilities involved in working in the hospitality industry.

With their enthusiasm and new skills, there may be some future café owners among the group.
