Macleans College students embrace Pasifika culture at Young, Free & Pacific

Posted on June 18, 2025

Thirteen girls from Macleans College had the enriching experience of attending the Young, Free & Pacific event.

This significant gathering, now in its 11th year since its inception in 2014, offers Pasifika students in Years 11-13 a unique opportunity to connect with their cultural heritage.

In addition, a group of seven Macleans College boys participated in the Young Men's Day.

The events provided a powerful platform for students to explore their identity and build connections with other young people across the Pacific. The ocean was celebrated as a symbol of unity, reflecting the shared histories and values of diverse Pasifika communities.

Each day featured two workshop sessions and three inspiring guest speakers. The workshops encouraged creative expression through visual arts, spoken word, dance and music. These activities allowed students to reflect on and celebrate their cultural roots in dynamic and engaging ways.

A key theme throughout both events was the collective strength found within Pacific communities. Through shared experiences, valuable lessons and vibrant cultural expressions, students gained a deeper understanding of their identity and the importance of mutual support. Students left feeling both empowered and enlightened by the experience.

Macleans College extends its sincere gratitude to Ms Tuialii and Mr Reed for facilitating these invaluable experiences for students.
