Macleans College First Aid Group students have strengthened their lifesaving skills after successfully completing an intensive half-day course with a Hato Hone St John First Aid Tutor.
The training gave 20 students the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice and develop greater confidence in responding to medical emergencies.
Held in the Bentley Pavilion, the course followed a series of lunchtime first aid sessions led by student executives Behrad Etemadipour (Batten House), Vivian Zhang (Snell), Arnika Etemadipour (Batten) and Owen Wang (Snell).
The students took part in practical training alongside the tutor, practising their skills on each other and using adult, child and baby mannequins. Some of the mannequins simulated blood circulation during chest compressions, providing a realistic training experience.
By the end of the course, students were confident in performing CPR and using a defibrillator. They also learned how to respond to choking, life-threatening bleeding and shock.
All 20 students successfully completed the course and received a NZQA Certificate in Basic Life Support, which is valid for two years. The achievement provides the students with valuable skills and knowledge that could make a difference in an emergency.
