Year 10 Macleans College student Tamsyn McCamish (Mansfield House) recently represented New Zealand at the 2026 Australia-New Zealand Challenge in Canberra as a member of the New Zealand Schools Orienteering Team.

The competition brought together the Australian Schools Orienteering Championships and the Oceania Orienteering Championships, incorporating the Australia-New Zealand Foot Orienteering Challenge. This featured individual events across sprint, middle and long distances - along with a relay challenge.

At the Australian Schools Orienteering Championships, Tamsyn achieved an equal second place in the Junior Girls Sprint. She finished ninth in the Junior Girls Long Distance event and recorded the second-fastest time on her relay leg.

Tamsyn also contributed to a strong team result in the Southern Cross Challenge. The two New Zealand teams finished equal on points, ahead of all Australian state teams, to share first place. Her performances earned her the award for Best Newcomer to the New Zealand Schools Orienteering Team, shared with one other team member.

At the Oceania Orienteering Championships, Tamsyn placed fourth in the W16 Middle Distance and fourth in the W16 Relay.

Congratulations to Tamsyn on an impressive international campaign and a successful debut with the New Zealand Schools Orienteering Team.
