Posted on May 29, 2026
Macleans College Learning Support students showed outstanding teamwork, determination and sportsmanship at a recent Special Olympics football tournament hosted by Ellerslie Football Club.
Supported by a dedicated group of Macleans College student volunteers, the team embraced every challenge and celebrated several memorable moments throughout the day.
The opening match against Auckland Grammar School was a strong team performance. Macleans College controlled much of the possession but was unable to break through Auckland Grammar School’s outstanding goalkeeper. Mark Ma (Rutherford House) also delivered an excellent performance in goal for Macleans College.
In the second match, Macleans College scored its first goal of the tournament through a well-taken finish from Sissi Chen (Rutherford). Perry Pan (Rutherford) added another goal as the team continued to build confidence and momentum. Gleb Druzhinin (Rutherford) also played an important role by encouraging teammates throughout the game.
The third match featured excellent dribbling from Jonathan Chong (Rutherford) and accurate passing from Kayden Ng (Rutherford) in a closely contested game. Tony Ma (Hillary) and Ryan Yan (Rutherford) worked strongly in defence to complete another impressive team performance.
The tournament was a rewarding experience for everyone involved. Macleans College student volunteers demonstrated excellent leadership and provided enthusiastic support for participants from all schools throughout the event.
Thank you to Mr Wollerton, Mr Paterson and Mr Utech for their ongoing support of the students.
