Spanish language students explore the cultures of 20 countries

Senior Spanish language students at Macleans College recently stepped beyond the classroom to explore the diverse cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
Through a series of hands-on activities, students travelled virtually across 20 countries, discovering the traditions, music, food and customs that bring the Spanish language to life.
Students began the afternoon by receiving a passport and setting off on their cultural journey. To earn each passport stamp, they completed activities inspired by different countries and their traditions.
In Spain, students learned to clap a basic flamenco rhythm. In Colombia, they learned the steps of a traditional cumbia. In Mexico, students prepared their own tortillas using corn flour, then added salsa and cheese for an afternoon treat.
By the end of the afternoon, students had visited 20 Spanish-speaking countries and taken part in a wide range of cultural activities.
The experience provided an opportunity for students to take their learning beyond the classroom. Alongside developing their Spanish language skills, they explored how the language connects with the diverse cultures, traditions and everyday experiences of people around the world.
