Rutherford House Lends a Hand to Cure Kids Ambassador Families

Posted on October 01, 2018

Recently Rutherford House volunteered their time to help Ambassador families who work closely with the house charity of Cure Kids.

These families have spent an incredible amount of time at Starship Hospital due to childhood illnesses, some even living there for weeks and months at a time.  For many of the families this means that day-to-day tasks that are taken for granted can prove problematic, if not impossible.

Five families were visited over the course of a weekend by around forty students split into smaller working groups, all keen to help out.  Weeding, water-blasting and landscaping proved no obstacle for the enthusiastic students. The smiles and hard work they displayed was unwavering throughout the two days.

Feedback from the families has been overwhelmingly positive, this quote sums up the feeling of all involved.

“A huge heartfelt thanks to the Rutherford House students who unselfishly gave up a good chunk of their Saturday to clean up my backyard. What a huge credit to your school - they worked so hard, worked as a team and achieved so much. And they seemed like really nice kids too. I would be grateful if the students could be acknowledged /thanked at assembly from me as there is no way I could have achieved this on my own. Go Rutherford House!”

Plans are already underway for the next round of visits towards the end of Term 4 and next year by the students from Rutherford House.
