Posted on April 01, 2026
Macleans College’s equestrian team delivered a strong performance at the Pegasus Cup, one of New Zealand’s leading secondary school show jumping events.
Competing against top riders from across the country, the team demonstrated skill, composure and consistency over two days of competition.
Held at Takapoto Estate in Maungatautari, the event brought together 49 school teams and more than 200 riders, creating a competitive yet supportive environment.
Team members Harper Gilhooly (Kupe House) riding Nala, Florence Haxton (Hillary) riding Skipper, Olivia Owen (Snell) riding Rising Dawn and Kate McKeen (Hillary) riding Sir Melwood represented Macleans College with pride across a range of events.
In addition to show jumping rounds, the competition included an equitation component. This emphasises rider position, rhythm and ring craft. As a result, the Pegasus Cup not only recognises performance outcomes but also promotes high standards of horsemanship.
Macleans College riders achieved several notable results.
Harper achieved an impressive fourth place in the Arion 70cm Equitation, followed by ninth in the Arion 70cm Equitation Final and 10th in the Teddy Bed 70-80cm Accumulator.
Florence and Olivia placed 10th and 16th respectively in the Quality Presentations 70cm Two Phase.
Kate also performed well, finishing 11th in the Teddy Bed 80cm Equitation.
