Pasifika students inspired at Young, Free & Pacific Conference
Posted on June 22, 2026
Senior Pasifika students from Macleans College immersed themselves in a day of culture, connection and leadership at the Young, Free & Pacific Conference in Ellerslie.
The event brought together Pasifika students from across Auckland to learn, share experiences and celebrate their heritage.
Young, Free & Pacific is an initiative run by Affirming Works that empowers Pasifika youth through leadership development, cultural celebration and personal growth. The programme encourages young people to recognise the value of their voices and the positive contribution they can make within their communities.
Throughout the conference, students participated in a range of interactive workshops, including music, dance, spoken word and creative arts. They also learned from inspiring Pasifika leaders and mentors who shared their experiences and encouraged students to embrace their strengths with confidence.
The conference provided valuable opportunities to connect with students from other schools, develop new skills and step outside familiar surroundings in a supportive environment. Macleans College students were also fortunate to meet Miss Samoa 2025-2026, whose inspiring journey of cultural pride and self-belief left a lasting impression.
The experience strengthened students' sense of belonging and confidence. It also reinforced the importance of celebrating their heritage, supporting one another and using their voices to make a positive impact within their school and wider community.
