Top ten finishes and medals for Macleans College athletes

A group of Macleans College athletes represented the school at the 52nd New Zealand Secondary Schools Track, Field and Road Race Championships in Hastings, Hawke’s Bay.

The athletes competed in hot conditions and against strong national fields.  They showed exceptional composure and resilience throughout the event.

Christian Geldenhuys (Batten House) - senior 1500m and senior road race; Flynn Healy (Mansfield) - senior 800m; Max Maddock (Upham) - senior road race; Ben Oxford (Kupe) - senior 3000m and Daniel Shahbazpour (Upham) - junior 100m all showed outstanding commitment and effort in their respective events. Each athlete gave their very best.

Several athletes achieved notable results and top 10 placings:

• Pedro Stefanello (Rutherford) competed in the junior 100m and 200m, reaching the semi-finals of the 100m.
• Indu Ganegoda (Kupe) achieved a personal best throw to place eighth in the junior javelin final.
• Tobias Crowhurst (Te Kanawa) delivered two impressive races on the same day, finishing fifth in the junior 2000m steeplechase and ninth in the junior 3000m road race.
• Tighe Healy (Mansfield) secured a national bronze medal in the junior 300m hurdles, demonstrating excellent technique and composure.
• Richie Trathen (Snell) earned a national silver medal in the senior 3000m race walk, a remarkable achievement at this level.

All athletes can be proud of their performances, particularly in the challenging conditions.  Their results reflected their ability, perseverance and commitment to excellence.
