North Island Secondary School Horse Trials

On 18 and 19 May five riders travelled to Taupo’s National Equestrian Centre to compete in the North Island Secondary Schools Horse Trials.

The competition this year drew a large number of schools from across the North Island.

Macleans 1 consisting of Zoe Lynd-Jones (Hillary House), Beth Osborne (Kupe), Sam Keane (Batten) and Hayley Newington (Hillary) placed fourth overall in the Mixed A and B Level competition.

Zoe competed at the A level, producing a great dressage score and clear cross country round over a huge jumping course.

Hayley competing at the B Level and managed to pull off a double clear round in the cross country and show jumping phases.

Beth achieved a clear cross country round in the B Level competition riding a borrowed horse as her mount was out injured.

Sam contributed a great dressage score to the team before being thrown from her horse out on the cross country course.

 Zalia Tornquist (Snell) competed in the B Level competition in a mixed team which included riders from Strathallan. She did well to complete all three phases of the competition.
