Tēnā koutou katoa

Welcome to the new school year. I trust you have enjoyed a break over summer and spent time with friends and family.

We are looking forward to having all students on campus from Tuesday 31 January. All new students and their parents are invited to an open afternoon on Friday 27 January. This is an opportunity to meet staff from your child’s whānau house, between 1 pm and 3 pm.

The main office at school is surrounded by scaffolding while repairs to the roof are done. The office is open and may still be accessed through the front door.

Summer Training

I would like to acknowledge the students, staff and parents who have been training and competing over the summer break. Rowing, cricket, basketball and rugby squads have been busy. I am sure many other individual athletes have also been preparing for the season ahead. It is great to see this level of commitment.

American University Scholarships

A number of our students have secured sporting scholarships to American universities. Congratulations to Christian De Vaal (Athletics), Ronan Codyre (Athletics), Laura McCabe (Rowing), Vivian Lu (Golf) and Stephen Liu (Golf) who have earned scholarships to participate in the prestigious NCAA programme.

Community Carnival, 1 April 2023

Macleans will be holding a Community Carnival on Saturday April 1st. There will be food trucks, music, stalls, games and activities. We want to welcome the community into Macleans to join staff and students in an afternoon of fun and entertainment.

More details of the day will be provided during the term.

Examination Results

Congratulations to our senior students who completed external examinations last year. The results across the school were at our usual very high standard.

Enrolments

The school roll is at its highest number ever as we experience in-zone roll growth. We were unable to take students on the ballot this year in Category 6 and are unlikely to do so in the foreseeable future.

School Donation

Thank you very much to our families who have paid the school donation. I appreciate there is financial pressure on budgets at present. These funds are gratefully received and contribute directly to the opportunities our students have.

I am looking forward to a busy year of educational activities and hope to see you at school events throughout the year.

Ngā mihi
