Macleans College mathematicians shine on national and international stage

Macleans College students continue to achieve outstanding results in mathematics at both national and international levels. These recent accomplishments reflect the strength and depth of the school’s mathematics programme.
The following highlights showcase exceptional student performance across two prestigious events.
The 30th International Mathematics Modelling Challenge (IMMC) was held over Easter weekend. Following last year’s success, where Macleans College and a partner team from South Korea won the competition, another Macleans College team has now been selected to represent New Zealand. Around 20 schools nationwide took part.
The selected team, made up of Year 10 students, Hugo Tan (Batten House), Andy Tian (Snell), Ethan Liu (Snell) and Yixuan He (Snell), achieved this distinction against strong competition. The school now awaits confirmation of a potential invitation to the prizegiving event in Washington DC.
The Otago University Junior Mathematics Competition took place before school at the end of Term 1, with nearly 400 students participating. Approximately half have progressed to the second round, scheduled this week. This result reflects strong engagement and capability among the school’s emerging mathematicians.
