After narrowly missing out on gold for the past two years, Macleans College secured a dominant victory at the East Auckland Interschools Chess Regionals.

The school fielded five teams in total, with Team A and Team B both earning podium finishes.

Team A - comprising Charlie Huang (Batten House), Kelvin Wang (Hillary), Alex Pan (Hillary), Zoey Huang (Batten) and Lucas Xiao (Rutherford) - achieved a flawless performance, winning all 12 rounds to claim first place.

Team B secured third place, while Team D finished just one point behind, narrowly missing a spot on the podium.

Special recognition goes to Kelvin and Zoey, who were awarded best board prizes. Zoey was also one of only three players on the day to achieve a perfect 6/6 score.

With this outstanding result, Team A has qualified for the National Interschools Final, to be held in Christchurch during the July school holidays.

The school extends its thanks to Mr Chang for his organisation and support, making this opportunity possible for all participating teams.
