Macademy Awards 2023

The Macademy Awards is the annual showcase of filmmaking at Macleans College.

Fifteen student short films will be screened, and Macademy Awards for best film, director, script, performance, cinematography, editing/sound presented.

These awards are being determined by artists from the New Zealand film/TV industry: Nahyeon Lee (writer/director: Kainga), Acushla Tara-Kupe (actress: The Gone), Paul Waggott (actor: Shortland Street) and former Macleans College student Isabella Giommarelli (Te Kanawa House 2011 – 2015) (producer/writer/director/editor on various projects). Additionally, there will also be an Audience Choice Award voted for and awarded on the night.

  • ‘Bigfoot Isn't Real’ - Phoebe James (Upham) and Mamta Kumari (Upham)
  • ‘Bloom’ - Zoe Barrett (Upham)
  • ‘A Ghostly Connection’ - Jude Al Shaer (Snell) and Flora Browne (Te Kanawa)
  • ‘Good Enough’ - Chloe Lam (Upham) and Ivy Xu (Kupe)
  • ‘Look Behind You’ - Isaac Han (Hillary), Daniel Kang (Upham), Ella Qiang (Snell) and Ellen Wu (Batten)
  • ‘Love You To Death’ - Mischa Inglis (Snell) and Molly Pakenham (Kupe)
  • ‘Operation Olivia’ - Trent Spencer (Te Kanawa) and Josh Falconer (Upham)
  • ‘Sandcastle’ - Ivy Feng (Rutherford)
  • ‘Spot’ - Ela Meiring (Batten) and Liliana Relf (Te Kanawa)
  • ‘A Super Scary Movie’ - Ben Kirman (Batten) and Brody Padfield (Te Kanawa)
  • ‘You're Trolling’ - Lemond Chak (Hillary), Logan McKay (Rutherford) and Raymond Zhou (Kupe)
  • ‘Teine Sa’ - Madison Alanotama (Te Kanawa), Sulieti Fangupo (Hillary) and Lucy Priestley (Rutherford)

The Macademy Awards will take place at the Colin Prentice Auditorium on Thursday 19 October at 7.00 pm. Tickets are available now for just $10. The red carpet will be rolled out so dress up for the paparazzi! Last year’s event sold out in advance, so get your tickets quick!
