Live performance enhances drama studies at Macleans College

The Macleans College Cambridge and NCEA Drama classes attended A View from the Bridge by Silo Theatre Company at Q Theatre last week.
The NCEA Level 2 and AS Cambridge classes have been studying this text as part of their coursework. Seeing it performed by professional actors provided valuable insight into the play in a live setting.
The audience was seated ‘in the round’, with all four sides facing the centre of the stage. This created an intimate atmosphere, similar to a boxing ring, which later echoed key themes in performance.
The production was a strong example of effective acting and direction. Students benefited from observing skilled performers bring the text to life with clarity and control.
The staging was minimal, with no elaborate set or complex lighting. This placed clear focus on the actors and their performances.
The students represented Macleans College well. They remained attentive throughout and engaged thoughtfully in the Q&A session after the performance.
