Exclusive site visit gives students insight into infrastructure careers

A group of Macleans College students recently explored the world of infrastructure through the Women’s Infrastructure Network’s Girls in Infrastructure initiative.
Designed to inspire and inform Year 12 and 13 girls about diverse opportunities within the infrastructure sector, the programme gave students a behind-the-scenes look at one of Auckland’s major transport projects — the brand new KiwiRail Drury Station development. The group was also the first invited to tour the site before its official opening.
During the visit, students met industry professionals and project teams to learn about the planning, engineering, construction and collaboration involved in delivering a large-scale public transport project. They gained insight into a wide range of career pathways, including rail infrastructure, urban development, project management and design.
The day also included an interactive careers expo focused on innovation and technology. Students participated in simulation and virtual reality activities that offered an engaging introduction to the infrastructure industry.
Now in its fourth year, the Girls in Infrastructure initiative continues to provide Macleans College students with valuable first-hand experience and a greater understanding of careers helping shape New Zealand’s future infrastructure.
