Hillary House continues support of the Himalayan Trust

Hillary House recently held a special assembly to celebrate its long association with the Himalayan Trust.

Every year the students and staff of Hillary House raise money in order to make an annual contribution towards the Himalayan Trust. The trust raise funds to provide education, safe water and better healthcare to communities in the Everest region of Nepal.

Despite the COVID challenges that created a hiatus since the last donation, Hillary House rose to the challenge and raised $10,000 over the past two years.

Money was raised through holding lunchtime festivals, sponsorship for Cross Country runs, students raising money personally through doing chores, and selling ice-creams. The generosity of students and families was heart-warming.

This donation was presented to the Himalayan Trust at the special assembly, where Sir Edmund Hillary’s daughter Sarah Hillary, and grandson and New Zealand Operations Manager of the Himalayan Trust Alexander Hillary were present.

Students and staff take great interest and pride knowing that the money raised will go a long way in helping Nepalese students to access a digital learning platform in the classroom. Alexander Hillary explained that the amount donated is enough to provide 40 computers for a school.

Hillary House will continue to strive to uphold Sir Edmund Hillary’s legacy of service and help to the Nepalese community.
