Macleans College Golf Day drives strong community support

The third annual Macleans College Golf Day brought together supporters, sponsors, alumni and the wider school community for a successful day of fundraising and connection at Howick Golf Club.
With strong community backing, the event raised valuable funds for student sport while continuing to strengthen the school’s links beyond the school grounds.
This year’s fundraising will primarily support the Macleans College Premier Boys’ Cricket Team as they prepare for their tour to Sri Lanka later this year. A portion will also assist the Macleans College Premier Golf Team, current Auckland Champions, as they prepare to compete at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Golf Championships in Christchurch in August.
On a sunny day with a light sea breeze, the event attracted 29 teams, with every hole on the course sponsored. Players gathered ahead of the midday shotgun start, taking time to connect before play began. Registration created a lively start to the day, with Blair Welch and his team from Marbled sponsoring and preparing the BBQ.
The event was supported by staff, students and volunteers across the school. Students from the cricket team assisted throughout the course and helped manage additional activities, including a gamble hole and putting challenge. Student photographers Salvador Vantacich (Batten House) and Emma Li (Kupe) captured the occasion, recording highlights from across the day.
The Ambrose-format competition created a relaxed and social atmosphere, with teams enjoying both the challenge of the course and the camaraderie of the day. There was plenty of laughter and friendly competition. Some teams posted impressive scores, while others took the more scenic route around the course. The strong turnout reflected the generosity of the school’s supporters and the enthusiasm that continues to grow around the annual event.
After play concluded, guests gathered for food and prizegiving. The prize table featured more than $5,000 worth of prizes, with awards recognising both high-performing teams and some more light-hearted achievements. Every team left with a prize, reflecting the strong support of the event’s sponsors.
