Junior Adventure Race team takes on Get to Go Regional Qualifier

The team of eight Year 9 and 10 students began the competition with the mountain biking stage. They were placed in a highly competitive pool that included schools that had finished first and third in the Auckland competition. Although the course was not technically difficult, the wet conditions made the grass sections increasingly muddy and slippery. The students completed an hour of intense racing, with each competitor riding at least five laps.

After the cycling stage, the team travelled to Onehunga Lagoon for the water challenge. Despite the freezing temperatures, the students took on laps in both stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) and racing kayaks. The kayaks proved challenging at first, with several students ending up in the water. However, the team quickly adapted and recorded a competitive score.

The final stage was a navigational rogaine, in which the students split into two teams of four to locate checkpoints across a mapped course. Both teams successfully cleared the map. However, a mistake on a bonus question cost valuable points and saw the team drop from fourth place in a closely contested competition.
