Former Principal opens the Bentley Pavilion

On Friday 10 May the Bentley Pavilion, located on Oliver Road adjacent to Macleans College was opened.

The Pavilion is named in honour of Mr Byron Bentley who was Principal of the school from 2000 – 2017. He and his family were welcomed by the entire school of over 2,500 students performing the School Haka.

This was followed by a karakia and blessing given by Rev. Bruce Keeley. The Macleans College Kapa Haka group then performed a waiata. Mr Richard Wilkie, Chairman of the Macleans College Board of Trustees delivered a mihi and welcome to the guests. The official opening was performed by Mr Bentley.

After the guests were seated Mr Simon Peek, Associate Principal gave an account of the completion of the Pavilion. A musical item ‘Welcome Home’ by Dave Dobbyn was performed by Danielle Tweedale (Rutherford House) and Reuben Chung (Mansfield).

Mr Steven Hargreaves, the current Principal gave closing remarks to end the ceremony.
