Filmmaking success in Outlook for Someday competition

Two Macleans College student films have been awarded top prizes in the Someday Challenge, a national filmmaking competition for young people up to the age of 24, run by Outlook for Someday.

To be eligible for the competition the films required themes of sustainability; the competition encourages young people ‘to examine the world around them, tell their stories and share their perspectives of what they see, hear, and feel’.

Former student Zoe Barrett (Upham House 2019 - 2023) was awarded the Up to 18 Special Prize for her film Bloom; the award acknowledges the best film from the secondary school entries. The judges commended ‘the film's imaginative visual concept, highlighting its relatability to the struggles faced by today's youth’.

Year 13 student Ivy Feng (Rutherford House) was rewarded with her film Sandcastle also named in the top ten for the competition. The judges praised the film for ‘its beautiful shots and positive vibes, captures the essence of childhood joys by the ocean’.

Both students received a range of prizes including vouchers, merchandise and a career session for the New Zealand Writers’ Guild.

Both of these films were showcased and awarded last year at the Macademy Awards. Their films and many more can be found on the Media At Macleans YouTube channel.
