Fierce bidding at Auckland Pairs Bridge Tournament

Posted on June 22, 2021

Auckland Bridge Club hosted the annual School Pairs event on Sunday 20 June.

The schools represented were Macleans College, Auckland Grammar School, Rangitoto College, Avondale College, Baradene College, and Remuera Intermediate.

The bidding was fierce with the first 2 contracts at table 4 both getting doubled.

The East-West pair of Michael Lu (Mansfield House) and Marcus Choi (Mansfield) didn’t stop doubling after the first table and against Iris Chan (Hillary) and Eason Chang (Hillary) they picked up 1000 on a re-doubled hand in Round 5.

On that same board, North-South pair William Lockhart (Kupe) and Yixue Wang (Mansfield) also found their Diamond fit and competed to 6DX. A great score if the other EWs in the room find 6S or 7S, unfortunately for them, none did.

Congratulations to all the winners:

North-South

1st 61.1% Sue Li (Mansfield) and Niccolo Nustrini (Te Kanawa) of Macleans College

2nd 57.1% Joseph Tan (Te Kanawa) and James Ling (Te Kanawa) of Macleans College

3rd 56.4% William Lockhart and Yixue Wang of Macleans College

    East-West

1st 66.9% Alex Shan of Remuera Intermediate and Briar Coleman of Baradene College

2nd 65.5% Angel Huang (Mansfield) and Edward Siew (Te Kanawa) of Macleans College

3rd 46.6% Jervis Lai (Mansfield) and Aiden Tang (Upham) of Macleans College
