Macleans College celebrates cultural diversity through food and tradition
Posted on May 07, 2025
The Macleans College Intercultural Club (ICC) recently hosted a successful event celebrating the rich cultural diversity of the Macleans College community.
The Intercultural Food Festival highlighted the diversity through a vibrant and memorable celebration. Students and staff enjoyed cuisine from across the globe. From dorayaki, tanghulu, and taiyaki to tres leches, panikeke, and gol gappa - each stall offered a unique culinary experience.
In addition to the food festival, the ICC organised an intercultural mufti day. Students were invited to wear traditional clothing or the colours of their national flags. The day featured a colourful display of global cultures and traditions.
ICC President Cecilia Ma (Mansfield House) and Vice-President Hannah Liu (Rutherford) led the initiative alongside executive team members Behrad Etemadipour (Batten) and Naomi Kwan (Snell). Their efforts ensured the success of this much-anticipated and well-loved event.
Thank you to Mrs Hoshino and the teachers involved in the Intercultural Clubs Committee. Their guidance and support were essential in ensuring the event ran smoothly.
All proceeds will be donated to Third Culture Minds New Zealand. This organisation promotes hauora (wellbeing) and kotahitanga (unity) within diverse communities. It advocates against racism and supports migrants and refugees through their integration journey in New Zealand.
