The Macleans College Concert Band has earned a gold award at the National Concert Band Championships - following an outstanding performance against school, community, university and adult ensembles from across New Zealand.
Held in Cambridge at the end of Term 2, the championships brought together some of the country's finest concert bands. Under the direction of Dr Miles, the Macleans College musicians presented a demanding programme that showcased both their technical ability and musical expression.
The programme featured Shine as the Light by Peter Graham, a new commission From Sorrow to Dancing by New Zealand composer Kirsten White, the well-known Entrance of the Gladiators by Julius Fučik, and Jimmy Webb's MacArthur Park. Their performance was recognised with a gold award from the adjudicators.
Following this success, the Concert Band will now turn its attention to preparing for the KBB Music Festival.
The school extends its thanks to Miss Leong, Mrs Swasbrook and Miss Xie for their valuable organisational support.
