On Friday 21 June 70 Macleans College students travelled to Birkenhead College for the Auckland Regional Barbershop Contest.

Performing in the Young Women in Harmony quartet competition was Daydreamin’, featuring Annika Lee (Snell House), Josephine Law (Batten), Wei Tian Teo (Rutherford) and Emily Rush (Te Kanawa) and the Young Men in Harmony quartet competition Three and a Half Basses, featuring Rayman Tang (Rutherford), Kay Tang (Snell), Kevin Hou (Upham) and John Yang (Hillary).

Both quartets were awarded 1st prize in their respective categories.  The Macappella chorus, led by Melody Lowe showed why they are the reigning national champions and were clear winners in the Young Women in Harmony Chorus competition, singing arrangements of Too Young and Alexander’s Ragtime Band.

All three groups have now qualified for the national finals which will be held in Christchurch in September.
