Chess Success in Eastern Zone

The Interschool Eastern Zone Regional Chess Tournament was held on Tuesday 4 August 2020 at Bucklands Beach Intermediate.
The event was run by the New Zealand Chess Federation with four schools competing in this tournament.
Three of the Macleans College players won individual awards for being the best player of their respective board:
- Best board 1 player: Jasmine Zhang (Hillary House)
- Best board 2 player: Terry Shen (Te Kanawa)
- Best board 3 player: Roger Yang (Upham)
As the defending regional champion, Macleans A team once again dominated the regional competition by winning every single match and securing the first place spot.
The team consists of Jasmine Zhang (Hillary), Terry Shen (Te Kanawa), Oliver Dai (Snell), and Devon Nilaweera Patabendige (Rutherford).
As a result, Macleans College has qualified for the national interschool competition. The team will travel to Mount Maunganui next month as defending champions.
