A week of celebrating te reo Māori at Macleans College
Posted on October 09, 2026
Te Wiki o te Reo Māori brought the Macleans College community together for a week of activities celebrating te reo Māori.
The week began with the annual raising of the Tino Rangatiratanga flag, followed by a haka performed by members of the kapa haka group.
Throughout the week, students could learn the correct pronunciation of place names and test their mātauranga (knowledge) of te ao Māori through a Kahoot quiz.
A colouring-in competition provided another way to participate. Students could also earn a sweet treat by taking part in a lunchtime kōrero in te reo Māori.
The activities encouraged students to give te reo Māori a go and incorporate the language into everyday school life. Karawhiua, go for it!
