Big Sing Finale

Posted on September 18, 2018

The Macleans College Chorale, were once again invited to compete at the finale of the nationwide Big Sing Competition, run by the New Zealand Choral Federation.

Led by Mrs McNabb, the 55 strong mixed voice choir, travelled to Wellington as one of 24 choirs battling it out in a truly world class festival, held at the Michael Fowler Centre.

Each choir performed two recitals featuring works from three categories, Choral Art Music, NZ or Pacifica Music and Other Styles.

The choir received an impressive ovation for their recitals with audience members leaping to their feet to show their appreciation.  Highlights of the two recitals were Steven Rapana’s arrangement of Malie Tagifa, a traditional Samoan piece featuring Wayne Zhou (Kupe House) on the Pate (Samoan log drum) and Marcia Los (Batten House) performing a traditional Samoan dance.

Erik Essenvald’s Only in Sleep, featuring Jackie Liu (Snell), Michelle Delves (Hillary) and Marcia Los, was a breathtakingly beautiful and magical moment.  The choir received a Silver award for their efforts
