Batten House raises $5,000 for Northern Rescue
Posted on October 15, 2026
A $5,000 fundraising effort by Macleans College’s Batten House is helping support Northern Rescue and its vital helicopter rescue service across Auckland and surrounding regions.
The achievement reflects the generosity, enthusiasm and community spirit shown by students throughout the year.
Northern Rescue operates the Northland and Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopters, providing 24/7 emergency medical and rescue services. Its highly trained crews respond to serious accidents, medical emergencies and search-and-rescue missions, including in remote areas.
As a charitable service, Northern Rescue relies heavily on donations, sponsorships and community fundraising to help meet the significant costs of operating its rescue helicopters.
At a recent house assembly, Service Captains Minette Deyzel and Behrad Etemadipour, together with House Captain Noah Williams, spoke about the BATMAN Carnival (Batten and Mansfield Houses combined) and the tremendous effort that went into making the fundraising initiative a success. Their message highlighted the time, energy and enthusiasm shown by students across Batten House.
Students also gained a personal insight into the work of Northern Rescue through a video shared by Mrs Guthrie. She kindly allowed the House to watch footage of her rescue helicopter evacuation from the side of a mountain after she broke her leg several years ago. The experience helped students understand the vital role rescue crews can play in remote and challenging situations.
Batten House was also pleased to welcome Mr Fraser Burt from Northern Rescue. He spoke about the organisation's work and the costs involved in operating a helicopter rescue service. He also discussed career pathways within the sector - with several students taking the opportunity to speak with him about possible future careers.
Batten House thanks everyone who contributed their time, effort and generosity to the fundraising initiative. The $5,000 raised is a significant achievement and a reflection of the strong spirit of service and community within the house.
