Macleans College sailors compete at Auckland Secondary Schools Team Sailing Championships

Day one featured challenging conditions, with strong winds reaching up to 30 knots.  Despite the heavy breeze, the sea remained relatively flat, although persistent showers continued throughout the day.  The Macleans College Red team performed strongly, winning most of their races and finishing the day in third place overall.

The Macleans College Blue team, helmed by three Year 9 students and sailing at the minimum weight limit, found the heavy conditions particularly demanding. They showed great determination, managing to secure a race win before experiencing several capsizes and a few injuries.

As wind conditions worsened, the race committee cancelled racing on the second day of the regatta.

The final day brought lighter conditions, with a 5 knot north-westerly breeze and sunny conditions.  Both teams sailed with confidence and completed the remaining races.  The Blue team gained valuable experience in a demanding competition.  The Red team recorded strong wins against several highly ranked schools as they prepared for nationals.
