Auckland Netball Combined Points Tournament 2021

Posted on August 09, 2021

On Wednesday 4 August the Macleans College Premier, 9A and 10A netball teams competed in the sunshine at the Combined Points Tournament held at the Auckland Netball Centre.

Premier

The Premier team, led by coaches Sally Meale and Miss Rinckes, had a challenging pool with top Auckland teams Baradene College, St Dominic’s College, Carmel College and One Tree Hill College.

The girls came up against Baradene College, one of the strongest teams in the secondary competition and were competitive. They had close games with both Carmel College and St Dominic’s College only losing by small margins. With a short turnaround of 20 minutes between games, the team went on to claim a convincing lead against One Tree Hill College who they had previously lost to in the Auckland grade, but sadly they could not hold on and the game resulted in a draw.

The team had a great day out as they prepared for their upcoming UNISS tournament. The momentum is building and the girls’ confidence and skills are improving greatly. It was wonderful to see the Year 10 and Year 11’s stepping up. The captain Gemma Richards (Kupe House) displayed an exceptional level of commitment both on and off the court.

Year 9A and 10A

The girls were excited to play teams from outside their pool of Saturday games and develop their skills at the Combined Points Tournament.

Both teams had tough competition but got all their members out on court in new positions and learnt a lot. The attitude the girls had towards their wins and defeats was very admirable.

A special thanks goes to Mrs Kingsley as coach and manager of the 9A and to Carmen de Villiers (Rutherford) and Mrs Watson for standing in as coach and manager of the Year 10A team. Your support and commitment to Macleans College netball is appreciated.
