Young artists take their work to Auckland Art Gallery

Macleans College Year 13 Visual Arts student Paris Huynh’s (Snell House) work has been selected for exhibition at Auckland Art Gallery as part of the 2026 Pat Hanly Creative Project.
Paris's painting Linger was chosen from 40 artworks submitted by Macleans College students for this year's project.
The artworks were featured in a projected display during Young Gallery Night earlier this month. The event celebrates the creativity of young artists across Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, showcasing original work by Year 12 and Year 13 students.
In July, gallery representatives visited the Macleans College Art Department to view the submissions and discuss the ideas behind the students' work. Following the visit, the selection panel chose Linger for inclusion in the final exhibition.
Paris's series explores the small moments that capture a person's attention. Her paintings focus on ordinary architectural details and the reasons a viewer might pause to appreciate a particular space, texture or arrangement.
Her work responds to the exhibition's curatorial theme, Ko au te taiao / I am the environment, and encourages viewers to consider their surroundings from a different perspective.
Young Gallery Night featured a vibrant programme of dance performances, a fashion showcase, film and print workshops, and student artwork. The final exhibition is open to the public at Auckland Art Gallery until Sunday 13 September 2026.
