Bringing Shakespeare to life: Students dive into ATC’s Macbeth workshops

Posted on August 20, 2026

Year 10 English students at Macleans College recently swapped their desks for the stage during a two-day workshop led by professional teaching artists from Auckland Theatre Company (ATC).

The workshop gave all Year 10 English students an insight into ATC’s production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Students explored the play’s themes and characters while gaining a closer understanding of the production currently being staged at the ASB Waterfront Theatre.

Students examined Shakespeare’s language through a range of physical exercises and activities. They also explored the production’s creative vision, including its focus on the panorama of violence in the play and its striking use of anachronistic sets and costumes.

The workshops have generated considerable excitement ahead of the students’ upcoming visit to the ASB Waterfront Theatre, where they will see Macbeth performed live.
