Aotearoa Art Fair visit connects students with contemporary art

Posted on June 03, 2026

Macleans College senior Visual Art students recently explored contemporary art on an international scale during a visit to the 2026 Aotearoa Art Fair at the Viaduct Events Centre.

The experience gave students direct access to a wide range of artistic styles, creative ideas and professional exhibition practices.

The 2026 fair featured more than 60 galleries and over 200 artists from Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia, the Pacific and beyond.

Students viewed a diverse selection of contemporary pieces, including large-scale installations, photography, painting, sculpture, ceramics and moving image works. The visit also provided insight into how galleries curate and present exhibitions within professional art spaces.

Macleans College alumnus Reuben Paterson (Rutherford House 1987 - 1991) was featured in the fair. His exhibition included painting and sculpture that continue his long-standing exploration of glitter, reflective surfaces and layered patterns.
