Macleans College swimmers finish sixth at national championships

Macleans College swimmers finished sixth overall among 130 schools at the New Zealand Secondary School Swimming Championships, producing a strong team performance across three days of competition.

Throughout the championships, the Macleans College swimmers demonstrated determination, resilience and school pride. Every member of the team competed with commitment and supported their teammates, contributing to the school's strong overall result.

Several swimmers achieved individual podium finishes.

Jonathan Bao (Kupe House) won the 14 years 400m freestyle and placed second in the 200m butterfly and third in the 200m freestyle.

Indie Herbert (Upham) was a standout performer, winning five national titles in the 14 years 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly and 200m butterfly.

Evelyn Loh (Te Kanawa) placed second in the 14 years 200m butterfly, while Aidan Taylor (Mansfield) in the 17-19 years old division finished second in the 200m breaststroke and third in the 400m freestyle.

The team also performed strongly in the relays. Daniel Loh (Te Kanawa), Samuel Asiata (Batten), Aidan Taylor and Will Herbert (Upham) combined to finish third in the Senior Boys 4 × 100m freestyle relay, highlighting the depth of Macleans College swimming.

The sixth place finish reflected the contribution of the entire team. Every swimmer played a part in the result, while the team’s sportsmanship and support for one another remained evident throughout the championships.
