The first ever Macleans College Community Carnival took place on Saturday 1 April, on the school grounds to a very welcoming crowd.

While the weather certainly changed a few plans, it was still a very successful day. The carnival provided a fun filled day with something for everyone, including outdoor games and activities such as a gumboot toss and penalty shootout, a drop in cinema, a British and European Classic Car display and mini putt.

The photo booths, junior Ferris wheel, a mini steam train, a bouncy castle and a petting zoo (which was extremely popular) provided a great time for the younger carnival goers. They may have even met a minion, Mickey Mouse, Kermit the Frog, storm troopers and some members of the Paw Patrol team while waiting for their donuts.

With full tummies after enjoying a delicious array of food trucks and cuisines from all around the world, the public browsed a bustling marketplace and stalls including second hand book, ball clothing sales and the Macleans College Year 13 Business Studies students selling their products. Special guest appearances from Simeon Brown and the Howick Local Board provided a great place for the community to have their say in what issues are important to them.

After a welcome speech from the Principal Mr Steven Hargreaves, the community was treated to performances from the vast array of Macleans College talent. Cultural performances included Bollywood, K-POP and Chinese Girls dances, Shakespeare Festival performances, a stunning Lion Dance performance with percussion and a traditional Mexican dance. Musical performances included the Macleans College Chorale and Senior Saxophone Quartet, as well as a sneak peek from the up and coming Musical Production of The Little Mermaid.

It was fantastic to see the local community enjoying all that was on offer, including the beautiful view from the school fields. Many alumni were amongst the crowd, taking the opportunity to visit their old school and sharing their school memories with family.

Macleans College would like to thank our sponsors John Russell Schoolwear, Fundraise Factory, Simeon Brown and The Howick Local Board for contributing towards our special day as well as the many businesses who made our raffle prizes so popular.
