Twelve Macleans College students delivered an impressive performance at the Auckland Schools Rogaine Championship, earning two podium finishes and several top six placings in one of the region's most challenging navigation events.

Organised by the NorthWest Orienteering Club, the championship was held in Woodhill Forest near Muriwai Beach. The event brought together students from across Auckland to test their endurance, navigation skills, and strategic decision-making in demanding outdoor conditions.

Rogaine is a demanding form of cross-country navigation in which individuals or teams aim to visit as many checkpoints as possible within a set time. Unlike traditional orienteering, checkpoints can be completed in any order and are worth different point values. Competitors must carefully balance route planning, speed and accuracy, with penalties applied for finishing late.

Participants faced a challenging course that began in forest terrain before extending along the coastline near Muriwai Beach. The varied landscape tested both physical stamina and the ability to navigate unfamiliar environments under pressure.

Macleans College students achieved several outstanding results across individual and team divisions.

Tamsyn McCamish (Mansfield House) secured a bronze medal in the highly competitive Intermediate Girls Individual Division.

In the team events, Jeslyn Jiang and Samadhi Samarathunga (both from Upham) earned silver in the Senior Girls Team Division.

Macleans College also recorded strong performances in the Intermediate Boys Team Division. Emery and Shaun Cai (Snell) finished fourth, while Christian Lianto (Snell) and Eden Wu (Hillary) placed sixth.

These results reflect the students' determination, resilience and technical navigation skills. Their success is a testament to the commitment they demonstrated throughout the competition.
