Inside Eden Park: A memorable day for the Macleans College 1st XV
Posted on July 17, 2026
The Macleans College 1st XV rugby team recently enjoyed an unforgettable behind-the-scenes experience at Eden Park, where players had the opportunity to train at New Zealand's national stadium and learn from one of the country's rugby greats.
The players took part in a training session led by former All Black Charlie Faumuina before hearing about his professional rugby journey during an engaging question-and-answer session. Charlie played 50 test matches for the All Blacks and was part of New Zealand's victorious 2015 Rugby World Cup team.
Players also had the rare opportunity to step onto the famous Eden Park pitch, where the All Blacks will face Ireland on 18 July. They changed in the All Blacks' changing rooms and were presented with individually named black jerseys, courtesy of Forsyth Barr and Eden Park.
The day continued with a behind-the-scenes tour of New Zealand's largest stadium, which has hosted many of the country's biggest sporting moments over the past three decades. Players visited the corporate boxes, coaches' and media suites, walked through the iconic players' tunnel, and enjoyed panoramic views of Auckland's skyline and volcanic landscape from the Rooftop Walk.
The visit provided valuable inspiration for the team as they continue their Auckland Secondary Schools 1B Division campaign. The experience also gave players a unique insight into one of the world's most recognised sporting venues while creating lasting memories with their teammates.
Macleans College sincerely thanks David Morgan and Mark Steele from Forsyth Barr Auckland East for generously donating this memorable experience. The school also thanks Charlie Faumuina and the Eden Park team for making the day such an inspiring occasion.
