Bouldering competition tests rock climbing skills

Last week the Macleans College competitive climbing team took part in round two of the College Climbing Series.

This time climbers participated in a bouldering competition, at Northern Rocks. Bouldering involves students being presented with short but challenging climbing problems. Climbers are unharnessed and must determine the best way in which to complete the boulder problem; using balance, strength, technique and mental agility.

The Macleans College climbers found the boulder problems testing, but still produced some excellent results.

Klaas Kamp (Kupe House) progressed to the finals of the junior boys’ competition, where he placed fourth. Cullen Campbell (Batten) progressed to the finals of the senior boys’ competition, where he placed second.

Notable mention also to Ashton Phillips (Kupe), who narrowly missed the finals of the junior boys’ competition.

After two rounds of competition, Macleans College are second overall in the schools rankings, which is a fantastic effort in the face of very tough competition.
