Young diplomats represent Macleans College at Model United Nations Assembly

Six Macleans College students recently demonstrated their diplomacy, public speaking and negotiation skills at the Rotary Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) held at Rosmini College.
The two-day event brought together students from across the Upper North Island to debate global issues, including deep sea oil drilling, refugees and freedom of navigation. Participants represented different nations and argued from those countries' perspectives.
Macleans College entered two teams, representing Tanzania and Iraq. Acting as United Nations delegates, students researched their assigned countries and developed positions on a range of international issues. They delivered speeches, took part in formal debates and worked with other delegations to discuss and propose resolutions.
The event gave students valuable insight into global affairs, international relations and the challenges of diplomacy. It also strengthened their critical thinking, teamwork and communication skills while broadening their understanding of issues facing countries around the world.
Macleans College is grateful to the Half Moon Bay Rotary Club for supporting the school's participation. The Rotary sponsored MUNA programme continues to provide students with opportunities to build confidence, develop leadership skills and gain a greater appreciation of international cooperation and the work of the United Nations.
